Intakes in Germany for Indian Students

There are two main intakes to study in Germany for Indian students: Summer Intake and Fall Intake. 

1. Fall Intake

This is the primary intake, starting in September/October and ending in February/March. Most universities and courses are available during this intake. The application deadline for the winter intake is usually in mid-July. 

2. Summer Intake

This is the secondary intake, starting in April/May and ending in July/August. Fewer courses and universities are available during this intake. The application deadline for the summer intake is usually in mid-January.

Germany can be cold in the winter. If you are not used to cold weather, you may want to consider applying for the summer intake. 

Upcoming Intakes to Study in Germany (2024-25) 

1. Summer Semester (Sommersemester) 2024-25 

Application Deadline 

The application deadline for the Summer Semester (April/May 2024) has already passed in mid-January 2024. 

Semester Start 

The Summer Semester typically runs from April/May to July/August and has already begun for 2024. 

Programs Available 

Postgraduate Programs: Select master’s programs, especially in fields like Business Administration, some Engineering disciplines, and specific scientific research programs. 

Undergraduate Programs: Limited number of undergraduate programs compared to the winter semester. 

Special Courses: Short-term and exchange programs, preparatory courses, and some language courses. 

2. Fall Intake (September) 2024 – UPCOMING INTAKE 

This is the primary intake with the most program options. Here are key dates to remember: 

Application Deadline 

This typically falls in mid-July 2024. However, deadlines vary. Be sure to check the specific deadlines for your desired programs at each university. Some universities might have earlier deadlines (as early as April 2024) especially for competitive programs, while others might have deadlines extending into late July. 

Here are some examples: 

Strict Mid-July Deadline: RWTH Aachen University (UG & PG) – Deadline: July 15th, 2024 

Earlier Deadline: Heidelberg University (UG with Restrictions) – Deadline: July 15th, 2024 

Later Deadline (to be confirmed): Technical University of Munich (TUM) – Deadline: Likely November-December 2024 (Double-check on TUM website) 

Application Documents Submission 

Along with the application deadline, some universities might have separate deadlines for submitting additional documents like transcripts, letters of recommendation, or standardized test scores. Make sure to factor in these deadlines as well. 

Semester Start 

Classes usually commence in late September or early October 2024. Specific dates can vary by university but expect them to fall within this timeframe. 

Programs Available 

Undergraduate Programs: Most undergraduate programs open their admissions for the winter semester. 

Postgraduate Programs: A majority of master’s programs and doctoral courses are also available for this intake.
